Friday 1st April - Manx Wearable Art Fashion Show

Friday 1st April in Douglas

This year for the first time ever, the Manx Wearable Art Show is going to be staged in Douglas at the Strand Shopping Centre. There will be a live catwalk show with an accompanying static display.
...If you are a creative person or group interested in art and clothes please join this art project, by sending us a message. Being part of the Manx Wearable Art has always proved to be fun, exciting and inspiring.

You don't have to go it alone as we shall be offering some practical support at our creative workshop on Saturday 12th February from 10.30am - 4.00pm upstairs in the Strand Centre. Come along if you want to join in or just find out a bit more about the event.

What is Wearable Art?

“Clothing unfettered by the constraints of mainstream fashion. It is able to embrace the worlds of art, fashion and the theatre to create garments of great beauty, innovation and wit.”

Wearable Art was started in 1987 by a small group of people in Nelson, New Zealand and has developed into a flourishing international event. People from outside the conventional art world have been drawn into it and textile and craft workers as well as art students and absolute beginners have all taken part.

Any material can be used: fabric, stained glass, paper, wood, metal, rubber, plastic, flotsam and all kinds of recycled goods. It only needs to be strong enough to survive the catwalk and striking enough to enhance the show!

The audience are not passive visitors to a gallery, but fascinated onlookers at an exciting and challenging spectacle. The models are not professionals, but ordinary people making art accessible by performing for their families, friends and neighbours, and hopefully inspiring everyone to join in.
